For the Whazamo! Artist Series, Calgary-based artist Nick Johnson illustrated his answer to our question, "What does a day in the life of a cartoonist/illustrator look like?"

In 2003, Nick co-founded the independent comic book label Vicious Ambitious which self-published graphic anthologies and several short films. He provided voice work for the upcoming animated films Future Boy and Wizards Christmas, as well as for commercials and radio plays. Current artistic inspiration is found in horror films, contemporary literature, spaghetti westerns and the ghosts of utopia. Nick is busy wrapping up the fourth and final year of his design degree at the Alberta College of Art and Design, majoring in Illustration. His work can be found online at www.NickSoup.com.

Nick recently illustrated Homophobia: Deal with it and turn prejudice into pride. Written by Steven Solomon, the book is the latest in Lorimer's Deal With It series, which offers children ages 9-12 guidance in coping with important issues. Filled with quizzes, Q+As, comics and scenarios, Homophobia: Deal with it teaches kids about homophobia and what they can do to make their schools, homes and communities more safe and inclusive for everyone.
