Slither Slide, What's Outside?

Read To Me, a new series on Open Book, showcases those magical children’s books that kids will ask you to read multiple times, and that you’ll love reading. Today, we’re featuring Slither Slide, What’s Outside? (Annick Press) by Nora Hilb & Simon and Sheryl Shapiro.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Preschoolers use their senses and imaginative play to express feelings, learn about themselves and show how they see the world around them. Slither Slide, What’s Outside? uses beautiful illustrations juxtaposed beside real-life photos, presenting a view of the world through children’s eyes.

WHY KIDS WILL LOVE IT: The colourful real-life photos and rhyming text are two strong elements that entertain. Throughout this book of verse, topics explored include nature, games, seasons and even stars. “Stars are like magic, shining at night. Glistening, glittering, like fairy light. GLOW!" Children will relate to the activities and make the connections by recalling the times they made a snowman and where they were when they saw a rainbow.

WHY GROWN UPS WILL LOVE IT: Slither and Slide, What’s Outside? gives parents ideas and encourages them to use interactive child-led play. Moving and making sounds like animals, creating pretend waterfalls and simply enjoying what the different seasons have to offer. Slither Slide, What’s Outside? reminds us to embrace a variety of play and experiences with our children.
