The Donner Prize has upped the ante. The annual award, which celebrates writing by Canadians in the domain of public policy, has increased it's cash offering for it's grand prize from 35,000 to 50,000 dollars.

The Donner Prize was created and is administered by the Donner Canadian Foundation, which is one of Canada's largest foundations. The foundation began in 1950 and continues to fund various wildlife conservation, medical research, international development and arts oriented organizations and programs. They also have a lengthy history of funding various think tanks and political groups.

This year, the committee is also increasing it's award to all short-listed authors, from 5,000 to 7,500 dollars. The official call for submissions begins today (November 7).

Last year's recipient was Doug Saunders for Arrival City (Knopf Canada).
