The Broken Social Scene Story Contest Finalists Announced

After much deliberation, Broken Social Scene judges Brendan Canning, Charles Spearin, Leslie Feist and Amy Millan and House of Anansi Senior Editor Janice Zawerbny have selected the 13 finalists whose stories will be published in The Broken Social Scene Story Project: Short Works Inspired by You Forgot It In People, available on May 30, 2013.

Many of the finalists have had works published in journals and magazines and have been shortlisted for various literary prizes across Canada. The finalists live across the country, from Victoria to St. John’s, and have written stories inspired by You Forgot It In People on topics as varied as suicide, heartbreak, staycations and bible camp. The stories are at times grim, funny, relatable, sexy and apocalyptic. The contest not only inspired a wide array of short fiction from music and book lovers of all ages, but also celebrates the diversity of You Forgot It In People and Arts & Crafts during their ten-year anniversary.
