Anansi Announces Longlist for Broken Social Scene Story Contest

After reading 400 entries from across the country, Anansi Senior Editor Janice Zawerbny has selected the 39 best stories of The Broken Social Scene Story Contest. Three stories were chosen for each of the 13 songs on Broken Social Scene's album You Forgot It In People. A jury comprised of Zawerbny and Broken Social Scene members Brendan Canning, Leslie Feist, Amy Millan and Charles Spearin will now choose 13 finalists whose stories will be published in the Anansi ebook The Broken Social Scene Story Project: Short Works Inspired by You Forgot It In People. The finalists will be announced on Anansi's website and the ebook made available for purchase on May 24, 2013. The top three overall stories will be announced at a ceremony at Thrush Holmes Empire in Toronto on May 30.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of the 400 entries were from Toronto, and if this matches up with the 16 long listed authors selected from the city (41% selection rate).

I sincerely hope the long list is representative of total entries, and this isn't another by-Toronto-for-Toronto writing contest.
