Free Comic Book Day is this saturday! Yep, free. Just head to your local participating comic book shop, and they'll have a bunch of free comics available from awesome publishers like Drawn & Quarterly, Fantagraphics, Marvel, and DC. These are specially produced editions or collections of comics specifically for the Free Comic Book Day event held around the world. It's a great way of promoting comics and getting folks (including kids) out and into the wonderful world of comics!

Here in Toronto, The Beguiling (our very own, world-leading comic shop), is holding a super-duper version of Free Comic Book Day. The event will run from noon to 5pm this Saturday in front of their store at 601 Markham Street (near Bloor & Bathurst). There will be a bunch of Canadian comic creators drawing, signing books, and just hanging out all afternoon. They will also have on hand their very own, Beguiling-produced, free comic featuring all sorts of awesome Canadian comic creators. Yep, I just happen to be in there and will also be at the event, but even if I wasn't I'd be recommending these things to anyone interested in comics, or thinking of getting into comics. Its a really great time to bring kids who love to draw or are interested in comics to meet some professionals, and also pick up some free books. Anything to get the kids into reading, drawing, or off the computers for an hour or two.

Missed it, which is very annoying. How did it go?
