The Englishman's Boy

McClelland & Stewart, 1996

My early career in Canadian publishing introduced me to even more of our country’s writers. What grabbed me when I first heard about The Englishman’s Boy was the notion of juxtaposing life in 1870s prairie Canada with silent-era Hollywood. What held me was how deftly Vanderhaeghe handled it. Just thinking about it now makes me want to give it another read.
